If you have wondered how these beautiful works of art are created, read on. All the turnings created by Denise are shaped from a number of different trees from all over Washington. Either freshly cut, or dried wood can be used for turning. Once the trunks are cut to an appropriate size, they are set on the lathe, and spun while being shaped by wood turning tools.

Denise has a wide assortment of these tools available, some for fine details, others are used for larger changes. It can take 40 hours to finish a single turning. Hours upon hours are spent slightly shaping the wood while it revolves on the lathe. Once the turning has been shaped, it is then coated with 4-10 coats of lacquer or other finishes such as oil or wax. This gives the wood its shine, or its matt finish.
